Maryland is mostly known for its rich cultural music heritage that dates back to colonial times and Armed Forces Bands are popular in the area. Many notable artists call Maryland home and even some of the greatest singers in modern times like Billie Holiday are from the area.
The greater Maryland area is host to top ranking conservatories and universities with excellent music programs such as Peabody Conservatory, University of Maryland College Park, Towson University and Bowie State Music Program.
