We all know that music gives off some sort of magic. It has the power to connect directly to our emotions and let our imaginations wander free. Music has also been tied to higher intelligence in many adults and children alike. One of the most common instruments that people are drawn to is the piano. There are many studies that claim that learning the piano can increase a person’s intelligence and make them a lot happier as well.

Learning Piano makes you smart
Learning how to play piano can benefit your brain. As we currently know very little about the human brain it can be hard to pinpoint what exactly music does to our brains and how it affects them. However, many neuroscience researchers have found that the cognitive demands of playing piano improve other aspects of your brain such as memory retention over time, language development, and the decrease of anxiety. The effects that playing piano has on the brain may be the reason why piano players tend to achieve success later in life.

How playing piano can makes you smarter
You already know that playing piano can improve many aspects of your intelligence, but how does it do this? Playing piano involves the utilization of multiple parts of the brain. You use your occipital lobes to process visual information such as the notes, the parietal lobes to process musical rhythm and notes, and you need your hands to play the notes you’ve mesmerized over time. When you are simultaneously doing all of these functions, you are boosting your brain’s ability to handle multiple tasks at a time, ensuring a great utilization of your brain.

Playing piano makes you smart because of its ability to sharpen your concentration. When you have poor concentration, it can be difficult to focus on tasks for too long. Piano players are able to divide their focus among a variety of tasks such as maintaining rhythm, pitch, tempo, and note duration to give a few examples. Playing musical instruments in general, but more specifically playing the piano, activates multiple important areas of the brain at the same time.

Playing piano can also alleviate your stress and make you feel more relaxed. It increases the release of endorphins, the feel-good hormone which may make you feel more positive and happy. When a person is feeling good and relaxed, they are happier and their brain can function optimally. Playing the piano can also improve upon your emotional intelligence. The same diligence put into listening for the correct notes can be applied to interactions with other people. In addition, emotions are not only expressed through facial expressions but also by the tone of the person’s voice. People who play piano are better listeners which make them more attentive to other people’s emotions.

Playing piano has a lot of amazing benefits so if you’ve been planning to learn to play piano and haven’t found a good excuse to do so, now is the best time to do it!
